Sheldon Allan Silverstein (1930-1999) (Known also as Uncle Shelly)
as child wanted to play baseball or have a thing with girls but he was only good and writing and drawing.
developed his own style of drawing, no one to copy
didnt start writing for children until 1963.
Became famous for childrens writing when "The Giving Tree" was published in 1964 (book was rejected by editor because "it feel between childrens and adults literature"
Religious lessons were based on the giving tree. The tree gave and the boy took and took. Inspired for their church sermons.
wrote for singers: BOTTOM
1974 published poems for children, Where the sidewalk ends; this brought him up to the Dr Suess and Edward Lear "level"
people had many interpretations of "The Giving Tree" Men taking from women, people taking from people
